Meditation Champions

When you ask most people who they think are meditation champions, they may think of Tibetan monks in yellow robes or half-starved yogis in India. It is very impressive to find monks and yogis who can devote their entire life to spiritual practices. Good for them and good for humanity.

But I would like to propose that it is the people who can meditate throughout the loud and obnoxious normal day activities in life who are the true meditation champions. This takes real spiritual mastery. For example, a woman who can meditate through her baby crying, a spouse who can meditate through annoying visits with the in-laws, and an overworked boss who can meditate despite all of the pressing concerns waiting for her on the table. Anyone can meditate when there are no distractions around, such as in a silent temple, chapel, or on an empty beach. But I challenge you to find me those people that can keep a spiritual calm and connection with the Divine through the loudness of life. They have the power to focus on God at any time and that is a truly impressive skill.
